Location: Allerville Arms, 2550 Olinville Avenue, Allerton, the Bronx, New York
Date: Tuesday, October 6, 2026
Accused: Angel Carrasco, 31
Charges: Murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, attempted manslaughter and assault
Status: Arrested October 7, 2026; arraignment expected in Bronx criminal court. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Nathaly Ramirez, a 23-year-old mother from the Bronx, New York, died on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, after police say she was pushed from the 15th-floor balcony of her apartment building while holding her 8-month-old daughter. The baby survived. Late on Wednesday, October 7, police arrested Angel Carrasco, 31, whom police sources describe as her former boyfriend and the father of her daughter. He is charged with murder.

The arrest closed a search that lasted nearly two days. It also sharpened a question neighbors had been asking since the first morning: officers had been called to Ramirez's apartment before, and Carrasco had already been charged in January in a case involving her. This case file separates what police have confirmed, what comes from police sources, and what is still not public.

Who Was Nathaly Ramirez?

Ramirez lived at the Allerville Arms, a high-rise at 2550 Olinville Avenue in the Allerton section of the Bronx. The people who spoke about her after her death described a new mother who was easy to be around.

ABC7 New York reported that she attended Bronx Leadership Academy and that former classmates came to the memorial outside her building. One of them told NBC New York: "She was always cool with everybody. She always talked to everybody." A friend, Dominique Rosado, told ABC7: "I don't remember a day that she was mad, sad." A worker at a nearby grocery store described her to amNewYork as a "nice girl."

Her relatives have said little in public. ABC7 reported that Ramirez's mother identified Carrasco as her daughter's ex-boyfriend.

What Happened at 2550 Olinville Avenue?

The NYPD's account, as published by The Bronx Daily, begins with a 911 call at about 3:38 a.m. on October 6 reporting two injured people outside the building. Officers from the 49th Precinct found Ramirez and her daughter in a courtyard behind the Allerville Arms, FOX 5 New York reported.

Police first said the two had injuries "consistent with a fall from an elevated position." The department later said its investigation had determined that both had been pushed from a balcony. Ramirez was taken to Jacobi Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her daughter was taken to the same hospital in critical condition.

Residents described what they heard in the minutes before. Stan Garlik, who lives on the 15th floor, told amNewYork that at around 3 a.m. he heard a man yelling "shut up, shut up, shut up." Another neighbor told NBC New York that she heard Ramirez plead, "Please don't do this. My baby."

Police have not said publicly what led to the confrontation, and FOX 5 reported that investigators were still working that out. Claims about a motive that have circulated online are unconfirmed and are not repeated here.

How Did Nathaly Ramirez's Baby Survive?

Ramirez was holding her daughter, according to NBC New York. Authorities believe that may have protected the child, NBC and ABC7 reported. That is what investigators believe; no official finding has been published.

amNewYork reported that the girl was later flown from Jacobi to Cohen Children's Medical Center. Reports on her condition differ. CBS News New York and FOX 5 said on Thursday, October 8, that she had been upgraded to stable. Gothamist reported that she was briefly listed as stable on Wednesday but was back in critical condition on Thursday. ABC7 reported that police expect her to recover.

Arrest and Charges Against Angel Carrasco

On Wednesday, October 7, the NYPD named Carrasco as wanted in connection with the case and released his photo. CBS News New York reported that police said he should be considered armed and dangerous. NBC New York reported that detectives had reviewed surveillance video showing a man in a hooded sweatshirt walking away from the building as officers arrived.

Carrasco was arrested late that night. NBC New York, amNewYork and Gothamist reported that officers found him at a friend's home in the Bronx. According to the NYPD, as reported by FOX 5, NBC New York and Gothamist, he is charged with murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, attempted manslaughter and assault.

He was held overnight at the 49th Precinct and was expected to be arraigned in Bronx criminal court on Thursday, October 8, Gothamist and ABC7 reported. Gothamist said information about his lawyer was not immediately available, and no plea had been reported when this article was written. Carrasco has not been convicted of any crime in this case and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Police sources told CBS News New York that Carrasco is Ramirez's ex-boyfriend and the father of her daughter. Gothamist reported that police described the two as a couple.

Were There Warning Signs Before October?

Several outlets have reported that police knew the address. ABC7 reported that officers responded to the apartment twice in January. In one incident, Carrasco was charged after allegedly slapping Ramirez during a dispute; amNewYork dated that incident to January 5 and said the charge was assault. Days later, ABC7 reported, police say he broke into her apartment looking for her, and he was charged with burglary. That case was later sealed.

ABC7 and Univision reported that police have four domestic incident reports on file involving the two. Sources told amNewYork that the two had been estranged after those incidents. A neighbor who gave his name as Mike described a January disturbance at the apartment to ABC7, without naming the man involved: "It happened in January. He was kicking the door down trying to get into the apartment."

What the public record does not yet show is how the January assault case ended, and whether any order of protection was in place when Ramirez died. None of the reports reviewed for this article answers either question. Those are questions about the system around her, not about her choices.

What Advocates Are Saying

The domestic violence organization We All Really Matter (WARM) held a vigil outside the building on Tuesday, October 6, and friends and neighbors returned with flowers and candles the next day. "We know that domestic violence is killing too many women around this city," WARM's founder and chief executive, Stephanie McGraw, said, according to CBS News New York.

ABC7 reported that WARM, which is based in Harlem, added Ramirez's photo to a wall honoring victims of domestic violence. McGraw told the station that WARM would have helped Ramirez and her daughter had it been contacted: "We wouldn't have asked any questions." She also said Ramirez is one of about seven women killed in New York City in the past two months, and she is calling for a public registry of abusers.

What Happens Next

The case now moves to Bronx criminal court, beginning with the arraignment, his first court appearance on the charges. The outcome of that hearing had not been reported when this article was written.
