Nathaly Ramirez, 23, died early on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, after New York City police say she and her 8-month-old daughter were pushed from the balcony of a 15th-floor apartment in the Allerton section of the Bronx, New York. Her daughter survived and is being treated in hospital.

On Wednesday, October 7, the New York Police Department named Angel Carrasco, 31, as the man it is seeking in connection with the case and released his photo. No arrest and no charges had been announced when this article was written, and police are asking the public for help finding him.

Who Was Nathaly Ramirez?

Police identified Ramirez as a 23-year-old resident of the building. Friends and neighbors who gathered outside with flowers and candles described her to ABC7 New York as a devoted new mother.

"She was very happy like she was very happy to be a mom," one friend told the station. Another friend, Dominique Rosado, said: "I don't remember a day that she was mad, sad. If we were sad, she would lift us up."

ABC7 reported that a group of her former high school classmates from Bronx Leadership Academy visited the memorial. Diario Libre reported that she went on to study psychology at Baruch College and had interned at a consulting firm in Brooklyn, whose owner called her death a great loss for the team. Neighbors told ABC7 that Ramirez had recently moved into the building.

What Happened on Olinville Avenue?

According to the NYPD's account, as published by The Bronx Daily, officers from the 49th Precinct answered a 911 call at about 3:38 a.m. on October 6 about two injured people outside 2550 Olinville Avenue. They found a 23-year-old woman and an 8-month-old girl.

Police first described what they found as consistent with a fall from a height. Later on Tuesday the department said more. "Further investigation determined that both individuals had been pushed from a balcony," the NYPD said, according to CBS News New York.

Ramirez was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where she was pronounced dead. Law enforcement sources told NBC New York that she was holding her daughter at the time. Police believe that is what protected the child, ABC7 reported.

Neighbors said they heard raised voices before the fall. One witness told ABC7 that she heard a woman yell "please don't do this!" Yvette Richards, a longtime resident of the building, told CBS News New York: "It's just devastating."

How Is Nathaly Ramirez's Baby?

The girl, whose name has not been released, was taken to Jacobi in critical condition. FOX 5 New York reported that she was later moved to a specialized infant trauma center on Long Island.

By Wednesday her condition had improved. ABC7 reported that she was in critical but stable condition, and Gothamist reported that police said her condition had been upgraded to stable. Police believe she will survive, according to ABC7.

Has Anyone Been Arrested?

No. Police identified Carrasco on Wednesday as wanted in connection with the incident, and Gothamist reported that no arrests had been made and that no attorney information was available for him. He has not been charged with any crime in this case and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Police said Carrasco and Ramirez had a relationship, Gothamist reported. ABC7 reported that he is believed to be her former boyfriend and the baby's father, while several residents described him to Gothamist as her boyfriend.

Authorities say the man they are looking for was recorded on surveillance video leaving the apartment building, according to ABC7.

Were There Earlier Calls to the Apartment?

ABC7 reported that police responded to the apartment twice in January, and that sources told the station there was a documented history of domestic violence there. A neighbor who gave his name as Mike described a disturbance involving a man at the apartment. "It happened in January. He was kicking the door down trying to get into the apartment," he told ABC7.

amNewYork, citing unnamed police sources, reported that Carrasco was arrested on January 8, 2026, on an assault charge in a case involving Ramirez. The outlet did not report how that case ended. Gothamist reported that investigators are checking whether the two had a documented history of domestic violence.

What Officials and Advocates Have Said

Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson wrote on social media: "We are praying for their family as the baby remains in critical condition."

The domestic violence group We All Really Matter, known as WARM, held a vigil outside the building on Tuesday. "We know that domestic violence is killing too many women around this city," its founder and chief executive, Stephanie McGraw, said, according to CBS News New York.
