Location: Leon Day Park, 1200 block of North Franklintown Road, Baltimore, Maryland
Date: Saturday, October 3, 2026
Accused: Tyree Reynolds, 23, of Baltimore
Charges: First-degree murder, attempted murder and related counts (30 counts in total, according to local reports)
Status: Held without bail; preliminary hearing reported for November 4, 2026; police still seeking a second suspect
Khloe Ishway, a 12-year-old girl, was shot and died on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Leon Day Park in Baltimore, Maryland, while a youth football homecoming game was under way. Three days later, Baltimore police arrested Tyree Reynolds, 23, of Baltimore, and charged him with first-degree murder in her death.
Two details have since moved to the center of the case. Reynolds had been released from a Maryland prison eight days before the shooting, and detectives say a second man who fired that evening has still not been found. Reynolds is accused, not convicted, and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Who Was Khloe Ishway?
Khloe was a seventh grader at Dream Academy, an arts-focused charter school in West Baltimore, according to The Baltimore Banner. The head of Baltimore City Public Schools, Jermaine Dawson, described her as a "wonderful young lady," the outlet reported.
Her mother, Kristin Reese, told CBS News Baltimore that the family had not gone to the park to watch the game. She said she had stopped only to drop off a baby bottle for her son. "We were only supposed to go there for one second," she said. At a candlelight vigil at the park on Tuesday, October 6, she said, "My baby's name is going to live on forever."
What Happened at Leon Day Park?
The Baltimore Police Department says officers were sent to the 1200 block of North Franklintown Road at about 6:15 p.m. on October 3 after several calls about gunfire. Khloe was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Four adults were also wounded and were listed in stable condition. Police say Reynolds was one of the four.
Investigators have said the shooting grew out of a dispute over a parking spot. Charging documents described by CBS News Baltimore and WMAR-2 News say surveillance video shows Reynolds in a parking lot beside the field when two men walked past and words were exchanged. Police allege that Reynolds was the first to fire and that one of the men fired back, wounding him. According to WMAR-2 News, the documents say Reynolds's shots went toward the field while the other man fired away from it. These allegations have not been tested in court.
Has Anyone Been Arrested?
Yes. In a news release, Baltimore police said Warrant Apprehension detectives arrested Reynolds on October 6 "without incident" and took him to the Central Booking Intake Facility, where he was charged with first-degree murder.
CBS News Baltimore and FOX45 News report that he faces 30 counts in all, including murder and attempted murder. The charging documents say Reynolds spoke with detectives and denied shooting, CBS News Baltimore reported.
Reynolds first appeared in Baltimore City District Court by video on Wednesday, October 7. His public defender waived a formal bail review and he was held without bail, according to CBS News Baltimore. FOX45 News reported that a preliminary hearing is set for November 4.
The second man has not been named or described publicly. "This continues to be an open and active investigation as detectives continue to search for a second suspect," the police release says.
Why Was Reynolds Released Days Before the Shooting?
The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services confirmed that Reynolds left state custody on Friday, September 25, 2026. He had been serving time for a July 2021 shooting in Baltimore. FOX45 News and WMAR-2 News report that he pleaded guilty in July 2022 to first-degree assault and a firearm offense and received a 15-year sentence, part of it suspended.
In August 2025, a Baltimore judge modified that sentence so that five years were to be served, FOX45 News and The Baltimore Banner reported. "Reynolds served the entirety of that five-year term, day for day, and was released on September 25, 2026," the corrections department said in a statement carried by FOX45 News and WMAR-2 News.
The Banner reported that a senior official in the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement wrote a letter supporting the reduction, and that prosecutors did not oppose it. A spokesperson for that office told the outlet the letter was written without permission from its leadership.
Baltimore City State's Attorney Ivan Bates told reporters he believed the letter played "a major and significant role" in the judge's decision, according to FOX45 News. In a statement quoted by The Banner, he called the defendant's later conduct "deeply concerning."
What Police and City Leaders Have Said
Mayor Brandon Scott and Police Commissioner Richard Worley announced the arrest together, calling it "an important step toward accountability for Khloe and her family." "It won't bring her back," the mayor also said, according to CBS News Baltimore.
Reese told FOX45 News she learned about the arrest through social media. Her response at the vigil was two words: "Thank God."
