Anna Ulibarri, a 36-year-old woman from Clovis, New Mexico, was found dead in a field in Curry County on Friday, October 9, 2026. The Curry County Sheriff's Office has arrested her husband, 39-year-old Jon Quezada of Plainview, Texas, and charged him with murder and kidnapping in connection with her death.

According to investigators, the case began about 13 hours earlier at a Clovis hotel, where Ulibarri called the front desk in the middle of the night and asked for security. The sheriff's office alleges that she was forced into a vehicle in the hotel parking lot a short time later. What happened between that moment and the afternoon call that led deputies to the field has not been made public.

Who Was Anna Ulibarri?

Authorities have identified the victim as Anna Ulibarri, 36, of Clovis, a city in eastern New Mexico near the Texas state line. The sheriff's office describes Quezada as her husband.

Beyond her name, age and hometown, officials have released very little about her. The news reports reviewed for this article do not include statements from her relatives, and no details about her work or family have been shared by investigators. This article will stay with what has been confirmed.

What Happened in Clovis?

The account that follows comes from the Curry County Sheriff's Office, as reported by KVII ABC 7 in Amarillo, KFDA NewsChannel 10 and The Eastern New Mexico News.

Investigators say Ulibarri and Quezada stayed at a hotel in the 2900 block of Mabry Drive in Clovis on the night of Thursday, October 8. At about 3 a.m. on Friday, October 9, Ulibarri contacted the hotel's front desk and requested security.

A short time later, the sheriff's office alleges, Quezada came across her in the hotel lobby, threatened her and ordered her to leave the building. Investigators allege that he then assaulted her in the parking lot and forced her into a vehicle.

At about 4 p.m. the same day, the sheriff's office received a call from Quezada. Officials say he told a dispatcher he had found his wife dead in a field. KFDA reported the call time as 4:02 p.m. and placed the location near Curry Road 8 and Curry Road U. KVII described it as the 800 block of Curry Road U, west of Cannon Air Force Base.

According to KVII, Quezada and another person led deputies to the field, where Ulibarri was found dead. The second person has not been publicly identified, and the reports do not say that person has been accused of anything.

Has Anyone Been Arrested?

Yes. Jon Quezada, 39, was arrested and booked into the Curry County Adult Detention Center. The Eastern New Mexico News reported that he was booked early on Saturday, October 10, and is being held without bond.

KVII and KFDA list four charges: murder, kidnapping, tampering with evidence, and unlawful possession of a firearm or destructive device. The Eastern New Mexico News reported the murder count as first-degree murder. Officials have not publicly explained what the evidence tampering and firearm counts are based on.

These are allegations. Quezada has not been convicted of any crime in this case and is presumed innocent unless he is proven guilty in court. The reports reviewed do not say whether he has an attorney or has entered a plea.

What Police Have Said

The investigation is being led by the Curry County Sheriff's Office under Sheriff Michael Brockett. The Eastern New Mexico News reported that the region's Major Crimes Unit was activated for the case.

The information released so far covers the hotel, the afternoon call and the arrest. Several questions remain unanswered in the public record:

  • Officials have not released a cause of death.
  • No motive has been given.
  • Investigators have not described where Ulibarri was between about 3 a.m. and about 4 p.m. on Friday.
  • It is not clear from the reports whether security or police were sent to the hotel after her call to the front desk.

Any explanation that goes beyond the sheriff's account is unconfirmed at this point.

What Happens Next

The case now moves into the court system in Curry County. None of the reports reviewed gives a date for a first court appearance or a detention hearing, and no trial date has been reported.
